Managing Stress With CBD

Managing Stress With CBD

Posted by Phene Wardlaw on

Is the New Year already making you stressed out? Well, forget about yoga retreats and sound bathing. Research tells us that CBD can significantly reduce stress and help you to relax.

Chill out with serotonin

CBD is a naturally occurring chemical compound found in cannabis and hemp plants. So it might not come as a total shock that a compound found in weed can help you to relax. Hormones play a big role in stress and stress management. It turns out that CBD can increase levels of a stress-reducing hormone: serotonin.

Serotonin is known for its ability to improve mood and is often used to treat anxiety and stress disorders (1). Research has found that CBD is able to activate a receptor that (once activated) starts the production of serotonin, increasing levels of this happy hormone and leaving you feeling more chilled out (2).

Cut back on the cortisol

Another way that CBD might be able to help you live a stress-free life is by reducing cortisol production. Cortisol is a hormone that you want less of if you’re looking to reduce your stress levels. This hormone is strongly associated with feelings of stress and is found in higher levels in patients with disorders like depression and anxiety (3).

Studies tell us that CBD is able to reduce the secretion of this stress hormone, meaning that it can probably have a big impact on your mood (4).

The bottom line

No one likes to be stressed, but sometimes it can be hard to combat. The good news for all you stress heads is that CBD can not only improve your mood, but it can also help to fight the hormone that leads to you feeling down in the first place.
